LBA Junior Tournament – 20th March

The Leicestershire Badminton Association (LBA) is running a junior badminton tournament on 20th March 2022 at Babington Academy, Leicester.

This is a non-county singles event, which is a great opportunity for new players to badminton to experience a tournament. The exclusion of county players really gives a greater opportunity for players from the club to acheive good results.

Notes:

  • This tournament is a singles event (i.e. boys or girls).
  • The tournament is based on school years (i.e. not Badminton England age groups based on your birthday from 1st January).
  • Hard copies of the event form will also be available to hand out on Wednesdays from 2nd March 2022.
  • Also please note this Tournament is being run independently by the LBA Junior Club and both (i) “Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club or (ii) the Leicestershire Schools Badminton Association (LSBA) are not involved in the organisation and/or rules associated. Therefore, all players are representing themselves and not anyone else. However, should they decide to wear club shirts we would expect them to comply on the day with the organiser’s requirements.

AGM – Tues 22nd Feb 2022

The club committee invites all parents, carers, volunteers and memebrs to the eighth AGM of Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club to be held on Tuesday 22nd February 2022 commencing at 7:30pm.

The AGM will be held at The Three Swans, 21 High Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7NJ and we will be located in the small ground floor area to the rear of premises, adjacent to the carpark.

The meeting will be hosted by the current club chairperson, Steve Chapman.

All committee member positions are up for election/re-election with a current vacancy for Parent Representative.

It would be appreciated if you would please advise the club secretary Lynda Haynes if you are able to attend this meeting and also if you are interested in any committee member positions.

Christmas Party – 15th Dec

Season’s greetings to all our players and parents.

It’s evident from the shops and the advertisements on TV that Christmas is already upon us. So what better time to let you know about our plans for some festivities at Harborough LC Juniors on Wednesday 15th December.

We try to do something every year. However, the last time we were able to enjoy a festive celebration was two years ago as Covid put paid to last year’s coaching and festivity plans.

You may remember that in 2019 we invited parents to come along and join in with some fun badminton and larking around. We intend to do that again as everyone appeared to enjoy the light-hearted challenges that included cramming far too many people onto one court and a curious version of the game that involves kneeling down when you miss a shot – as if that’s going to make it any easier. I won’t be asking Badminton England for clarification of those rules.

The fun stuff will take place before we serve the food, which will be the ever-popular individual boxes of pizza and chips with a soft drink for the youngsters. The kind members of the club’s committee also lay on plenty of crisps, nibbles, mince pies and cakes. What’s not to like?

For our young players, this will also be the last coaching session for the year.

It all starts at 4.00pm in the main hall at the Harborough Leisure Centre and will finish by 7.00pm. The food will be served at 5.30pm. As before, we really don’t expect you to stay for the whole thing, but we would be delighted to see you.

Season 2021-22

As per the current Government and Badminton England guidance we are able to commence sessions for season 2021-22 as normal at Harborough Leisure Centre from Wednesday 25th August 2021.

We are now able to offer all three sessions at the usual times listed below:

  • 4-5pm
  • 5-6pm
  • 6-7pm

The sessions will be run under current Badminton England guidelines, which include:

  • Members should not attend sessions with any symptoms of COVID-19 or if they have been asked to self-isolate.
  • It is strongly recommended that members take a lateral flow test prior to attending sessions. Lateral flow test kits are freely available to order here.
  • No handshakes or other gestures, hand sanitiser will be available to maintain hand hygiene.
  • Players advised to bring their own equipment, including racket and drink/water bottle and not share equipment.
  • Social distancing will be in place wherever possible.
  • Players should arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before the session time.
  • Parents/carers and older children advised to wear a face covering on arrival via the main doors.
  • Players may need to leave via the fire exit at the end of the sports hall.
